West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jack Livermore has said that the team are keen to repay caretaker boss James Shan by earning promotion to the Premier League. The Baggies made the surprise decision to sack Darren Moore earlier last month amid an inconsistent run, but Shan has since impressed in the caretaker role by guiding the club to the playoffs.
“Hopefully we can repay his hard work and what he’s done for us with the results he deserves. I hope I’m not speaking out of turn but he’s just had a newborn baby and he’s putting his time and effort into trying and split it the best way he can. Credit to him and hopefully we can repay him and it’s all worthwhile.”
The Baggies have already earned the playoff spot for the campaign and they can afford to rest players for the final two games of the season. Nonetheless, that may not necessarily be of advantage, given the regulars may want to end the league campaign on a high to boost their morale ahead of the playoffs.
West Brom are scheduled to face Rotherham United and Derby County during the final two games of the season and both of those remain crucial games for the opposition. Rotherham are currently three points behind 21st-placed Millwall on the table but they need to win their remaining two matches to stand any chance of beating the drop. Derby, meanwhile, are occupying the final playoff spot, but they can’t afford to slip-up with just one point splitting teams from sixth to eighth.
