West Ham United are clear favourites to sign West Brom shot stopper Sam Johnstone this summer. This is according to the publication from the Watford Observer. It was stated that the Hammers have a clear run on the player after it was established that Watford don’t want to sign the England international despite the numerous transfer links involving Johnstone and the club.
West Bromwere already confirmed as a relegated team from the Premier League with some matches left to play during the latest league campaign but West Ham target Johnstone covered himself in glory as he was the best West Brom player by miles. The England international also made the most saves amongst the Premier League goalkeepers. He was rewarded with the best player accolade at West Brom at the end of the season to highlight his excellent form for the club during the course of the campaign.
The new report from the aforementioned English publication has made it clear that Watford won’t be signing a new goalkeeper unless one leaves the club thus leaving the Hammers as the likely destination for Johnstone. West Ham United are keen to sign a new goalkeeper to provide competition for first choice Lukasz Fabianski and Johnstone has been rumoured to be the man that the Hammers want to do that job. Europa League qualifiers West Ham United might need to pay around £15m to £20m in the quest to sign Johnstone from West Brom when this summer’s transfer window opens.
