Hodgson was returning to Anfield for the first time since his departure back in January 2011. It was a successful return for the former Fulham manager, as he led West Brom to a 1-0 victory over Liverpool to compound the miseries for his former team.
Hodgson also said that he is extremely thankful for the good reception he received from the Liverpool supporters, who were extremely vocal in giving out their displeasure for the manager during his reign at Anfield.
Peter Odemwingie scored the only goal in the match, which gave West Brom all three points at Anfield for the first time in 45 years. Hodgson said that it was a lucky charm that helped them win the match. Liverpool had numerous chances in the match, but were unable to take any of them.
“I’m very pleased the Liverpool fans gave me a good reception and I thank them for that. We rode our luck a lot of times but it was a fantastic rearguard action. I’m very proud of the team. It was nice that at this stage of the season we have the fight and determination in us to hang onto the result. It’s not often that West Brom win here and although I accept that Liverpool were the better team, I have to be very happy that we have won it,” Hodgson told BBC Sport.
