West Brom lost the services of Roy Hodgson after the former Liverpool manager decided to take up the England managerial job.
Since the departure of Roy Hodgson, the club has been looking at the various candidates to replace him. West Brom now have announced that former Chelsea and Liverpool assistant manager Steve Clarke will now take over the number one role. Steve Clarke has been working as the assistant manager to some of the big names like José Mourinho and Kenny Dalglish.
The Scot has revealed that the experience of working under such managers will hold him under good stead when he takes over as the main man. Steve Clarke handed his resignation immediately after the sacking of Kenny Dalglish from the Liverpool managerial post.
Many thought that it was an act of solidarity by the former Chelsea assistant manager. Liverpool did not accept his resignation back then, but they have cleared the way for Steve Clarke to join West Brom after his intentions to become Premier league manager was revealed. The 48-year-old Scot has now agreed a two-year deal with West Brom.
“Becoming a head coach in my own right has always been an ambition of mine and I feel I have served my apprenticeship. I’ve done everything I could as an assistant, at Chelsea and Liverpool. I’m delighted West Bromwich Albion have given me the chance to make that progression, I’m determined to make the most of it. I’ve taken something from every manager I worked with and I’ve felt ready to make the step up for some time,” said Steve Clarke after officially becoming the new West Brom manager. The club finished the last season in the 10th position.
