West Brom have secured the signature of the former Werder Bremen player Markus Rosenberg, who was available on a free transfer after allowing his contract to come to an end with the German club. Rosenberg will be available for all of the West Brom fixtures pre-season.
The 29-year-old is the fourth signing that the new manager Steve Clarke has made in the summer. It is clear that the former Liverpool and Chelsea assistant manager is trying to recruit players who are buying his philosophy on the team in his first ever managerial job. The Swedish international will bring a lot of experience to the West Brom side that finished in the mid-table last season.
Markus Rosenberg has the experience of playing in some of the big leagues around Europe after he has represented clubs in Dutch and Spanish football. The West Brom manager Steve Clarke has said that he is extremely delighted with the presence of Rosenberg in the team because he will add a wealth of experience. Due to the expected departure of Peter Odemwingie in the summer transfer window, West Brom will be left short of options when it comes to attacking players. The presence of Marcus Rosenberg, though, goes a long way into helping Steve Clarke with more options up front.
“I’m delighted to welcome Markus to the club. He is an experienced striker who has scored goals in three of Europe’s top leagues, as well as in the top European competitions, and is determined to prove himself in the Premier League. Markus will really increase competition for places in the forward areas and hopefully spur on the strikers we already have here,” said Steve Clarke after announcing the capture of the former Werder Bremen player on the official website of the club. The player has signed a three-year deal with the club and has already said that he cannot wait to face Liverpool.
