West Brom managed a 5-5 draw with Manchester United on the final day of the season, which was also the last time Sir Alex Ferguson was managing the club. This was his 1500th game in charge of the club. West Brom striker Romelu Lukaku, who is on loan from Chelsea, managed to bag a hat-trick in the match, as he helped the club get an astonishing score against the Premier league champions.

Clarke said after the match that it was difficult to analyse it as the game because there was simply too much action. He, however, was extremely proud of the fighting spirit shown by his players. West Brom have been one of the best performers in the mid-table of the Premier league this season. This is the first managerial job for Clarke, who has been an assistant manager at the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in the past. He has said that the game was a fantastic tribute to Ferguson, who managed to lift 38 trophies in his 26 years at the club.

“It was an absolutely incredible afternoon and credit to the players. We had a plan to try to be solid and hard to beat and obviously it didn’t work because within 10 minutes we were two goals down! We went three down and it looked as though it could be a long afternoon, if I’m being honest. But this group of players have shown all season how resilient they are. It was a crazy game and a crazy afternoon and a fantastic tribute to Sir Alex to end on a game like that,” said Clarke.
