Coach Jose Mourinho was pleased with the display of his summer signing as his goals helped United to their third win in seven days – a run the Portuguese tactician has struggled to maintain since August. The 35-year old veteran has constantly shamed critics with his display since exiting PSG at the end of last season for United.
Ibrahimovic scored an early header and sealed the game off the opposition when he got his second early after the recess. West Brom had no chance against a confident United side, and home games against Sunderland and Middlesbrough mean the year could end good for Mourinho after a tumultuous run of games.
Whilst skipper Wayne Rooney would be happy that team was winning, he would have to wait further to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s record. The Three Lions skipper is on the verge of becoming the highest all time goalscorer for the Red Devils but will need more patience to reach his target with Ibrahimovic dominating the show.
Mourinho was full of praise for Ibrahimovic. After the game, he said:
“I’m so pleased for him. He is the kind of player who doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. But when he decided to come to England for the last period of his career – to the most difficult championship in the world – I think he proved he is a superman in his mentality. What he is doing at 35 is a dream for every striker of 25 in the Premier League.”
Ibrahimovic recently extended his deal by a year, and is expected to keep playing the lead striker role.
