STOKE CONCEDE EARLY

Stoke City conceded an early goal against Sunderland as they played each other in a match with a spot in the last 16 teams for the League Cup on the line but despite falling behind in the early stages of the match, the side of Mark Hughes overcame Sunderland as Stoke City score 2 goals which was just enough for the Potters to secure their spot in the next stages of the League Cup and one step closer on securing the title.

The Spanish defender Marc Muniesa scored both goals which gave Stoke City the triumph.

Juventus Surprises

Not many people would have thought that the Serie A title holders Juventus, one of the best teams in the world, would be pushed to the limits by the A-League players in the pre-season game at ANZ Stadium, but, it happened.
A crowd of more than 50,000 which was mostly cheering for Juventus witnessed a thriller of a match yesterday night in Sydney. Had it not been for two goals in a space of 5 minutes towards the end, the Italian giants would have suffered an embarrassing upset.

Irvine Happy To Have West Brom Management

West Brom recently appointed Alan Irvine as their new manager in place of Pepe Mel, who lasted only a few months at the club. He began his tenure at the club with a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town. Even though this was only a friendly match summer, Irvine stated that he is extremely happy to have got this victory. West Brom struggled with relegation throughout last season and they will be looking to avoid the same this time around. The club has a clean slate to begin with and Irvine says that this victory can bring a lot of positivity to the club.

West Brom Hierarchy Under Heavy Pressure

West Bromwich Albion just barely managed to escape the bottom relegation zone during the previous season as they survived for another campaign and will be fighting to remain in the Premier League.

Even though they managed to avoid being demoted to another league, it did not change the fate of Pepe Mel who was sacked and removed from his role in West Bromwich Albion as he had to leave the club only 1 day after the season finalized.

West Brom Scrape By Relegation

West Brom suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League after a 2-0 loss at the hands of Sunderland. The club came into the match still with the threat of relegation intact. They needed to get three points in order to be sure of relegation, which was possible if Norwich managed a win over Arsenal on the final day of the season. The club, though, managed to still stay in the Premier league despite a defeat after Sunderland’s victory meant that Norwich will join the likes of Cardiff and Fulham as the relegated clubs this season.

WBA TEETER

West Bromwich picked up a 0-1 victory when playing against Norwich City which was their latest Premier League fixture and this has given the relegation threatened club a breath of fresh air and relief as they are able to climb a few spots higher and get away from the bottom drop zone and Liam Ridgewell is hoping they can continue getting more positive results.

Bromwich’s next challenge awaits them on April 12 as they face off against Tottenham and the 29 years old defender of West Bromwich, Ridgewell is hoping his teammates can get the maximum amount of points possible.

ANELKA GIVEN NOTICE

West Bromwich has given Nicolas Anelka a 14 days’ notice about the termination of his contract which happened sometime after the Frenchman made his controversial goal celebration during West Bromwich’s match against West Ham.

Anelka scored twice against West Ham on December 28 but the gesture he made is associated with anti-Semitic sentiments which led to him receiving a 5 match ban as well as having his relationship with West Bromwich deteriorating until the point where the club has sacked the former Chelsea player.

MEL WELCOMED

Steven Reid has welcomed the appointment of Pepe Mel as the new manager of West Bromwich Albion, but, at the same time, he has also praised Keith Downing for doing a decent job as the caretaker manager.

Mel will have his first meeting with the West Brom team later today. The Baggies have to play their next match in about a weeks’ time and that’s good for Mel as he will be able to utilize that time to know the players. Going straight into the game without knowing the squad well is never easy for a manager.

West Brom not to start new contract talks

West Brom is all set to keep Steve Clarke, their manager, waiting till January to start contract dialogues. The former Liverpool and Chelsea assistant has been a huge success at West Brom. Recently, a well known sports tabloid stated that the Baggies had not yet started any negotiations with the Scottish manager regarding new terms.

Steve Clarke’s contract as chief coach is set to end next summer after he replaced Roy Hodgson in 2012’s June on a 2 year contract. Fifty year old Steve Clarke guided West Brom Albion to 8th previous season in his very 1st full season in management.

MORE LUCK NEEDED

West Brom manager Steve Clarke has said that his players have been doing extremely well apart from being a little more decisive in front of goal.

West Brom have struggled to score goals this season especially due to the absence of players like Romelu Lukaku, who scored a majority of the goals for the club last season. The Belgian international has returned to his parent club Chelsea after his loan spell came to an end. Even though Clarke brought in experienced international Nicolas Anelka on a free transfer, the club still looks short of goals upfront.
