WEST BROM INTENSIFY ATTEMPTS TO SIGN NAISMITH

English Championship club West Bromwich Albion are looking to bolster their squad as they look to mark a return to English top flight football. They have started making plans and identifying players they want to sign this summer and they are progressing remarkably. The Baggies are among a host of clubs that are showing keen interest in Luton Town defender Kal Naismith, according to reports from Football League World.


The 30-year-old joined Luton in the January transfer window at the beginning of 2021 and he has a contract at the club until the end of the season. Premier League clubs Burnley and Norwich City are interested in him, while several Championship clubs like Stoke City, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield United along with the Baggies are looking to snap him up. BRUCE PLANS PROMOTION PUSH AT ALBION

West Brom is currently locked in a battle with Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Luton and Sheffield for a spot in the playoffs. They are currently sixth with just three points separating the five teams. New manager Steve Bruce has promised that he would do all that he possibly can to ensure that his team secures a place.

Bruce signed an eighteen-month contract with the Albion side, and he hoped that his years managing top sides would come in handy in the coming months. For this to happen, he would need to drop his tag as a relegation “escape” expert into a manager that can steer a team into championship place material.

CHAMPIONSHIP: WEST BROM CLOSE GAP

West Brom have closed the gap on leaders Bournemouth in the English Championship following their slim win over newcomers Hull City. The Baggies are back in the second tier of English football after suffering demotion from the Premier League at the end of last season and they played hosts to newly promoted Championship outfit Hull City in their latest league game.


At the end of proceedings, West Brom were able to narrow the points deficit between them and Bournemouth at the top of the Championship standings with a 1-0 win over Hull City. SOUTHAMPTON IN JANUARY BID FOR JOHNSTONE

Southampton are reportedly plotting a move for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone ahead of the January transfer window next year. This is according to the report from English publication The Express and Star which stated that the Saints want to steal a march on other interested teams such as the London duo of West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur in the quest to sign the Baggies shot stopper.

 

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are waiting patiently to snap up ex-Manchester United shot stopper Johnstone on a free transfer when his West Brom contract ends next summer. However, Southampton are prepared to offer West Brom a fee for his transfer at the start of next year when the England international will have some months to run on his existing deal at the Hawthorns. WEST BROM TRIED TO SIGN JAMES ON DEADLINE DAY

Wales international winger Daniel James may have left English Premier League giants Manchester United to sign for Leeds United this summer, but they were not the only club that were interested in the former Swansea City man. James’ departure from Old Trafford was already a lingering topic in the media for some time and started gaining more media attention after the Red Devils signed England international star Jadon Sancho from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund dyeing the summer transfer window.

WEST BROM AGREE DEAL FOR WINGER

Football Insider understands that West Brom have agreed a free transfer deal for ex-Sheffield Wednesday winger Adam Reach. It was disclosed that the Baggies are on the verge of completing a move for Reach after they had a breakthrough in talks.

WEST BROM TARGETING MINAMINO SIGNING THIS SUMMER

Liverpool star Takumi Minamino is one of the Premier League players that have been attracting interest from several clubs this summer. The Japan international attacker has not had the best of careers at Liverpool and has failed to secure regular football at Anfield since his move from Salzburg some months ago. Following his move to join the Reds, Minamino initially had high hopes that he would become an important player under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp but that has not been the case so far.

Although the German manager has admitted that even though he loves the player, he cannot promise him regular game time because there is too much competition for places in the team. Because of his inability to become a regular starter, Minamino was then sent out on loan two seasons ago as he sealed a temporary move to Southampton where he spent the rest of the season at St Mary’s.

WEST HAM CLEAR FAVOURITES FOR JOHNSTONE

West Ham United are clear favourites to sign West Brom shot stopper Sam Johnstone this summer. This is according to the publication from the Watford Observer. It was stated that the Hammers have a clear run on the player after it was established that Watford don’t want to sign the England international despite the numerous transfer links involving Johnstone and the club.

Johnstone had previously been linked with Watford who are newly promoted to the Premier League ahead of the new season after finishing second behind league champions Norwich City in the Championship. The Hornets picked up one of the two automatic spots for promotion alongside the Canaries before Brentford completed the three-team promotion line-up via the playoffs.
