CLARKE WANTS DUO TO STAY

New West Brom manager Steve Clarke has said that he wants to retain both Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie at the club, despite transfer rumours linking the Cameroon international with a move to the Middle East.

Peter Odemwingie has been a huge hit at the hawthorns in recent seasons. Even though he may not have had his best of campaign last season, Steve Clarke has said that he is one of the important players at the club. Shane long has also been linked with a move elsewhere, but Clarke has reiterated that he would like to retain the former Reading striker.

Shane Long suffered from a number of injury problems in his first season at the club, but Steve Clarke has said that he expects the Republic of Ireland international to come back strongly from his injury problems. Shane Long has a reputation of scoring in the Premier league from his Reading days, which may come useful to the baggies in their efforts to get into the top half of the table. Roy Hodgson did a stellar job with the club after arriving from Liverpool to replace current Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo. Steve Clarke has a difficult task at his hands to emulate the success of the current England manager.

‘He is a top player, a Nigeria international, he scored goals in the Premier League consistently. There’s no reason to doubt that he’s not a top, top player and I’m really looking forward to working with him. His goal record here is really good. He’s the man you look to for the goals. Normally as an opposition coach I would be looking and seeing that Peter Odemwingie has scored again. I will come in and work with Peter and over a period of time I will be able to grade him,” said Steve Clarke.
