Dwight Gayle keen to impress with West Bromwich Albion

Dwight Gayle has highlighted his ambition to secure promotion with West Bromwich Albion during the ongoing campaign. The 27-year-old recently signed for the the Baggies on a season-long loan as part of an agreement which has witnessed Salomon Rondon join Newcastle United on a similar kind of deal.

Speaking to WBA TV, he said: “Scoring goals is one of the best feelings. I love scoring goals and hopefully I can score as many as I can here. It’s a difficult league to get used to. You need a bit of variety. At Newcastle, we didn’t start strongly but it was about mentality, getting results and building on performances each week. I know the experience and quality we have in the dressing room. I’m looking forward to getting out there, performing, making the fans happy, and getting promoted.”

Gayle had initially not been keen on leaving the Magpies but the opportunity of regular first-team football with the Baggies made him change his stance. Nevertheless, the marksman can expect some burden on his shoulders for the current campaign after making a key impression for Newcastle United during his previous season in the Championship.

Back in the 2016/17 campaign, Gayle’s 23 goals were crucial to ensuring Newcastle secured the Championship title and the striker can expect a similar responsibility with the Baggies, who are among the favourites to clinch promotion. Aside from Gayle, the Baggies have brought in four other recruits in Sam Johnstone, Kyle Bartley, Conor Townsend, and Jonathan Bond and the majority are likely to play vital role in the club’s quest for top-flight promotion.

Darren Moore’s side have endured a frustrating start to the Championship season with a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers but they have the opportunity to quickly shrug off the disappointment with a midweek game against Nottingham Forest.
