This is the second consecutive victory in the pre-season friendly matches for West Brom after they managed a 2-0 win over Bury last week. The club will still be involved in several friendly matches over the next few weeks with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Porto revealed as some of their opponents. West Brom will be looking to get as much form as possible – along with fitness – ahead of the season opener against Sunderland. It is quite possible that both these clubs will be involved in a relegation trouble at the end of the season. Hence, Irvine will want to take advantage of this home match to get three points.
“It was a good workout. Shrewsbury are ahead of us in terms of their training so obviously it was going to be a test for our boys physically. We wanted to get a few of the players on for a bit longer than we managed at the weekend (against Bury). Everybody did 45 minutes at the weekend and we were looking to see if we could get a few more minutes into a number of the lads. It’s still early days, there was a real mixed bag out there,” said Irvine.
