Slaven Bilic pleased with really good week for West Brom

West Bromwich Albion manager Slaven Bilic has been pleased with an exciting week where the Baggies have maintained their dominance at the top of the Championship. The west Midlands outfit returned from the international break with a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday and they have followed it up with a 4-1 thumping of Bristol City.

As a result, they remain at the top of the standings with a two-point advantage over Leeds United and Bilic is delighted with the hard work done by the players through the past few games, he told the club’s official website: “It’s been a really good week. I think we’ve deserved it. We also have to appreciate it, and to know what led us to this good week – hours and hours of training – and the only way we can have another week like this is basically following a very simple formula. Austin says a phone call from Slaven Bilic made him join West Brom

West Bromwich Albion striker Charlie Austin has revealed that a personal chat with Slaven Bilic convinced him to join the Baggies from Southampton before the summer transfer deadline. Austin had spent the past three-and-a-half years with the Saints but he chose to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere after falling out-of-favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl.


In an interview with the Last Word Podcast, Austin talked about the Bilic phone call and said that he was convinced by the approach from the former West Ham United boss, he told: “He said ‘Charlie how are you? We scored so many goals last year, so many balls in the box. I’m not going to change anything about you, I want you to come here, be my number nine and score me loads of goals like you have done in your career. He said ‘I’ll get the service from the lads to you, and we’re going to have a good season together. I must’ve been on the phone two minutes and I put the phone down and said to my wife – ‘I’m going to do it’. do it, are we not?”

Slaven Bilic explains Charlie Austin’s absence against Derby County

West Bromwich Albion manager Slaven Bilic has said that he did not want to risk Charlie Austin against Derby County amid concerns over the striker’s fitness. The former Southampton striker is regarded as the prime striker for the Baggies but he was left on the bench for the entirety of the Championship clash against the Rams.

Salomon Rondon sends emotional message after sealing Dalian Yifang move

Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon has posted an emotional message on social media after making the move to the Far East with Dalian Yifang. The experienced striker had spent the past four seasons in the Premier League with the final one of those with Newcastle United on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion.

“Today is the end of an incredible spell for me in the Premier League. During these past four seasons I’ve seen my dreams come true, like scoring in some of the greatest stadiums in the world or hearing some of the most loyal supporters chant my name.In my final year, I was extremely lucky to be part of a very special club, where I really felt loved by the supporters and after putting in a lot of effort, I enjoyed one of my best seasons on an individual level and we achieved a good outcome as a team,” he wrote on his official Twitter account.

Livermore keen to repay West Brom’s caretaker boss with promotion

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jack Livermore has said that the team are keen to repay caretaker boss James Shan by earning promotion to the Premier League. The Baggies made the surprise decision to sack Darren Moore earlier last month amid an inconsistent run, but Shan has since impressed in the caretaker role by guiding the club to the playoffs.

Rafael Benitez drops update on West Brom pair

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has said that both Dwight Gayle and James Murphy could have futures with the club once they return from their loan spells at West Bromwich Albion. Gayle joined the Baggies in a loan-exchange deal involving Salomon Rondon heading the opposite way last summer while Murphy made his temporary switch to the Hawthorns at turn of the year.

Speaking in a press conference, Benitez highlighted that Murphy’s loan deal was primarily focused on getting him more gametime and he could have a future at Tyneside next term. The Spaniard added that the same may be the case with Gayle, who has flourished for the Baggies with 17 goals in the current campaign.

BBC pundit urges Oliver Burke to stay put with Celtic next season

BBC pundit Don Hutchinson believes Oliver Burke would be better served remaining with Celtic rather than trying to prove himself at West Bromwich Albion. The Scotland international joined the Hoops on a short-term loan from the Baggies in January after he endured a frustrating spell where he was barely playing for the west Midlands side.

His fortunes have indeed changed with Celtic, where he has managed four goals and an assist across all competitions and Hutchinson feels the forward should seek to stay put with the Scottish champions next term. Speaking on BBC Five Radio Live, Hutchinson said that the 21-year-old would be better served to plying his trade in his home country, given he is unlikely to make the Premier League cut, should the Baggies seal promotion.

Moore happy with performance

West Brom manager Darren Moore said that he was pleased with the performance of his players in the game against Aston Villa. His team managed to win the game 2-0 after a battling performance.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Ben Woodburn could pursue a temporary move away from the Merseyside outfit before the transfer window closes next month. Phillips admits disappointment after Brentford draw

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Matt Phillips has admitted that team are disappointed after they could only muster a draw during the recent Championship game against Brentford. The Baggies were the dominate side with twice the number of attempts as Brentford last weekend but they were ultimately left frustrated with a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game, Phillips said that the team are distraught by the late equaliser from the visiting team but they need to move on with every point crucial towards their aim of gaining promotion, he said: “In the first half we created plenty of chances and we were playing well. It was a bit of a kick in the teeth that we only take a point from the game but it’s another point towards our final target. The most disappointing thing is that we had so many chances.
