STOKE CONCEDE EARLY

Stoke City conceded an early goal against Sunderland as they played each other in a match with a spot in the last 16 teams for the League Cup on the line but despite falling behind in the early stages of the match, the side of Mark Hughes overcame Sunderland as Stoke City score 2 goals which was just enough for the Potters to secure their spot in the next stages of the League Cup and one step closer on securing the title.

The Spanish defender Marc Muniesa scored both goals which gave Stoke City the triumph.

Mark Hughes is the head coach of Stoke City and he has admitted that winning the League Cup was one of the clubs’ priorities in this season and things are going as planned as they are getting nearer to one of their main objectives of this season.

Hughes said: “We talked about this right at the beginning of the season. We are only in three competitions and realistically we can only win two of them, so we wanted to try to do our best in this one. We have had a good performance and a good result tonight’’

In the next rounds of the League Cup, Stoke City has been drawn with Southampton as both clubs will be facing off in the final 16 at the Britannia Stadium on October. Mark Hughes can breathe a sigh of relief as his team managed to avoid playing against top Premier League clubs such as: Chelsea, Manchester City or Liverpool in the fourth round of the League Cup.

Southampton has however been enjoying a superb start of the Premier League as they are at the top of the English League right behind the current table toppers Chelsea.
