Tony Pulis has dismissed suggestions that the 2015-16 season has been a major disappointment for West Brom.
The clubs seemed to have gone backwards after only managing to avoid relegation the last few weeks of the season. In terms of points tally, they are one point behind the tally accumulated from last season. The trend continues in terms of league positioning. It comes as a major surprise considering that West Brom were expected to kick on with emerging talents like Saido Berahino. After emerging through the ranks at the club,Berahino has gone on to be on the wish list of several clubs in England.
He is widely expected to depart West Brom leaving them with an even bigger hole to fill. The club placed a lot of faith in manager Tony Pulis and his judgements in the transfer market. However, the arrivals brought in by the former Stoke City manager is yet to make an impact. Pulis, though, says that it has been a positive season in terms of individual players. He has pointed out to the better goal return byBerahino, who could leave for around £ 25 million. Pulis says that any more improvement needs substantial investment from the club and this is unlikely to happen in the near future.
“It’s a disappointment. Failure? Go and have a chat with the three clubs that have been relegated and see what they think. We finished 14th, and there’s a lot of clubs that wouldn’t mind finishing 14th. Sky Sports say Liverpool played their second team against us, but their second team is worth nearly £70m. I’ve got a team of £23m, so there’s a great divide in this league between the have and have nots,” said Pulis, who has also watched Leicester City win the league title on a shoestring budget.
