West Brom manager Tony Pulis reckons that England may have the ability to finally win a major tournament since they go into the Euro 2016 with a lot of belief.
England also have named a very young and highly talented squad, which is unlike before when the team used to rely upon older players a lot. The Euro 2016 may turn out to be a good tournament for the home nations. The likes of Wales, Northern Ireland, and Republic of Ireland are featuring in the tournament alongside England. Wales are a direct competitor for England after being placed in the same group alongside the likes of Russia and Slovakia.
A major task for England will be to at least match the achievements of the euro 96 when the team reached the semifinals. In order to come close to doing so, they will have to start the tournament with a victory in the opening match against Russia. Failure to win the opening match has been plaguing England for several major tournaments now. Pulis will be monitoring the Euro 2016 closely as he will be working as the pundit for ITV. He has placed his bets on England, but teams like Germany, Spain, and France are also considered as favourites.
“I think England will do well. I’m just hoping and praying Wales qualify.England will hopefully get through to the semi-finals and if they do they’ve got as good a chance as the other three teams. They’ve got a good group. It’s them and Wales to go through and then fingers crossed they can go to the semi-finals. It’s a toss of the coin then,” said Pulis. The West Brom manager also reckons that Wales will be able to get past the group aided by the presence of Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.
